Premier People: Kristen Mula, Senior Site Start Up Associate, Study Start-up

Premier Value: We Aim High

My degree is actually in biology, and I’ve always been interested in the human body. I started my career working on the bench in a metabolic lab, processing samples. After five years, I wanted a little bit more, so I did what I do best: some research.

I discovered the role of clinical coordinator. That’s where I really learned about clinical research and all the regulations pertaining to it: ICH, GCP, and so forth. It’s also where I found my passion for this industry. I had a few different jobs and eventually zeroed in on the CRO world; in 2016 I found a place in Study Start-up at Premier.

Study Start-up drives the timelines and deliverables to get clinical trials up and running at sites. We work closely to collect the required documentation per regulatory guidelines to ensure that the study is safe for patients. The job is very fast-paced, and no two days are the same. Plus, I love the relationships I get to form with clients. There is tremendous transparency because we are all working toward the same goal.

After four years, though, I moved on. I was ready for a change, and I was looking for more growth opportunities, so I took another job. I stayed in touch with my Premier colleagues, and a year later I’m back, because there are new opportunities.

Premier has introduced a new role in Study Start-up. I enjoy mentoring newer staff members; that is something I did before. This new role is going to allow me to take that kind of leadership position. Over the next several months, I will be working closely with my manager to develop the necessary skills and figure out what I need to do to succeed in this role.

It’s nice to be back. I’ve worked at other CROs; I’ve worked at a pharmaceutical company; I’ve pretty much seen it all. Premier is just like family. You can reach out to someone you haven’t talked to in a while and just pick up where you left off. You can have a relationship with someone in the C-Suite; that is something you wouldn’t necessarily get at a large CRO. It’s cool to feel like your input matters.

Now that I’m back, I also see a shift within Premier—they really value their employees and want them to grow and progress. I see the commitment to employees even with the new-hire orientation. It’s a really great way to introduce people to the company. The whole thing is pretty impressive, from my perspective. I’m excited to see what this new chapter at Premier holds.
