DURHAM, N.C., February 1, 2021 — Premier Research, the clinical research company that delivers outcome-focused insights which support sponsors in developing life-changing therapies, announced today that Abie Ekangaki, Ph.D., Vice President, Statistical Consulting, has been recognized by the American Statistical Association (AMSTAT) in celebration of Black History Month. Dr. Ekangaki is one of ten Black professionals highlighted in the February 2021 edition of AMSTAT News for notable contributions in their field of statistics.
“As his experience and career evolved, Ekangaki came to develop a keen appreciation for the degree to which technical impact and strategic leadership are integral to the role of a statistician,” writes the AMSTAT News editorial team. “His passage into this realm has unveiled the need for statistical leadership—not just administrative leadership positions for statisticians but a statistician’s individual ability to successfully engage others by articulating and distilling complex statistical concepts into easily understood and pragmatic solutions.”
Dr. Ekangaki earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics at the University of Lagos in Nigeria and his master’s and Ph.D. degrees in biostatistics at the University of Southampton. Following his education, he worked as a research scientist with the World Health Organization in Switzerland, served as a statistics lecturer at Macquarie University in Australia, and held several technical and senior leadership positions in the pharmaceutical industry before joining Premier Research.
At Premier Research, he provides statistical expertise to support effective clinical trial design, using advanced trial design methodologies to further sponsors’ clinical development programs. With more than 20years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, he is skilled at applying and advising on the statistical design and analysis of clinical trials in various therapeutic areas, from proof of concept and beyond.
