Michael Kuss

Vice President, Analgesia

Michael Kuss, BS, Vice President, Analgesia, leads an experienced group of researchers who provide sponsors with clean data that can be confidently used to support the marketing applications for their drugs in development. Premier Research has developed multiple proprietary pain models that minimize the variability of subjective responses to pain, and that have become industry standards for analgesia research.

“We frequently conduct analgesia studies with opioids that have abuse deterrent properties,” says Mr. Kuss. “This area is very important to me since I know people who became addicted to opioids and used them inappropriately. We have such an immense problem today with the abuse of prescription drugs, and it’s personally gratifying to be involved in the pharmaceutical industry’s efforts to minimize this abuse.”

“We are the ‘go to’ CRO when it comes to doing pain research. We produce a high quality product, and we have fun doing it. I’m really proud of the reputation our analgesia team has in the industry.”

Mr. Kuss has been with the company since 2001 and has worked as an Executive Director, Clinical Trial Management and Senior Director, Analgesia and Rheumatology. He is responsible for working with clients to help develop clinical development plans, provide therapeutic expertise to internal and external clients’, write protocols, manage study teams to conduct clinical trials, and participate in the preparation of clinical study reports.

Prior to joining Premier Research, Mr. Kuss worked for Pharmacia (formerly G.D. Searle) in various positions with the last being Director of Research and Development. Mr. Kuss was responsible for clinical development of several COX-2 inhibitors (celecoxib, valdecoxib and parecoxib) and NSAIDs (oxaprozin, oxaprozin potassium, diclofenac/misoprostol) as part of the Arthritis and Inflammation team. Prior to G.D. Searle, Mr. Kuss worked as a Clinical Research Associate at Abbott Laboratories and as an Infectious Diseases Research Technologist.

Mr. Kuss graduated from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio with a BS in Medical Technology. He received a certification in Medical Technology from the American Society of Clinical Pathology.
